LAW ENFORCEMENT I've spent 32 years in law enforcement, 25 of those years full time at the city and county level. During my 15 years at the Muscatine County Sheriff's Office I worked my way up through the ranks to the Civil Service position of Captain and served as the Shift Supervisor. In 1992 I also took on the duty of Dispatch Supervisor and became a certified dispatcher. In 2003 I was appointed Chief Deputy Sheriff by Sheriff Greg Orr. It's been a great honor and the highlight of my career to serve at this capacity. FIRE SERVICE I spent 25 years as a volunteer firefighter. I was elected Fire Chief for each of the last 10 years by the membership and served as Fire Chief until we moved from the community. While on the Fire Department I was elected as a Fire District Trustee and became the Fire District Board President. For over 10 years I served on the Emergency Management Board and am currently the Acting EMA Director when Jeff Carter is out of the area. EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE For 29 years I served in many capacities. Starting with certification as a first responder, then emergency medical technician-ambulance. I went on to become a member of the Ambulance District Board of Directors, and then Board President. WATER SAFETY/ SEARCH AND RESCUE After receiving my scuba diving training, I immediately became involved in underwater search and rescue and have assisted in water emergencies in Muscatine County and most surrounding counties. I have also been involved with the Midwest Regional Water Safety Council and currently serve as Vice President. I have taught swift water rescue and ice rescue to more than 500 public safety professionals from nearly every county in Iowa. Currently I am on the Board of Directors of Muscatine Search and Rescue. COMMUNICATIONS Sheriff Ron Hazen appointed me to supervise the Muscatine County Sheriff's Dispatch Center in 1992 in addition to my Patrol Supervisor duties. This position required I become a certified dispatcher. When the original Joint Communications Board was named for the development of the MUSCOM Joint Dispatch system, I served as the County representative and Board member. During its inception I served as a technical advisor. |
